About Joel Kaplan
Throughout my life I have had a love of art and design.
At the tender age of ten I began my formal art training attending the Saturday School program at the Art Institute of Chicago - I have never stopped.
My passion served me well in my career in design and product development.
After over thirty years with Dayton’s and Marshall Field’s I retired as director of trend and product development in 2001. While continuing to work as a consultant I finally have the time to get back to my love for painting.
Watercolor has always interested and challenged me. For many yearsI have continued to take classes at the Edina and Minnetonka art centers. But classes I have taken at the Split Rock program at the University of Minnesota and several workshops with accomplished watercolorist, gave me the confidence to develop my technique and style. It’s a process - and that’s what makes each new project exciting.
